Peggy’s Cove is a small, picturesque fishing community located 43km south of Halifax, on the eastern shore of St Margaret’s Bay.

In 1811 the land was granted to 5 men who had been fishing from this location since 1804. By 1827 several other families had also settled in the area.

Peggy’s Cove is well known as a popular tourist attraction and an artists’ dream.

Although the famous Lighthouse no longer guides its fisherman and sailors’ home, in the summer months it does serve as Canada’s only post office located in a Lighthouse.

Because of the rugged coastline and challenging terrain Peggy’s Cove has also the unfortunate history of having the highest number of drowning deaths in Nova Scotia. It has also limited many from fully experiencing all that Peggy’s Cove has to offer in an accessible and safe way.

To solve this challenge and make this wonderful tourist site more accessible to all so came to be the “Peggy’s Cove Viewing Platform” project.  Thoughtfully designed by OG Architects, careful consideration was given to the history of this local community and how to keep these unique features by using materials and a design that blends seamlessly with the rugged, natural terrain that Peggy’s Cove is so famously known for.
